Join the Land Trust and Osamequin Farm as we partner to welcome, Massachusetts Audubon Certified Field Naturalist, Jonathan Kranz, who will lead us on a Wild Mushroom Excursion at Osamequin Farm.

Osamequin Farm: Walnut Street and Prospect Street
Accessibility: This walk will take us across uneven terrain (packed dirt trails with protruding rocks and roots, other low obstacles, and a mild incline), through potentially tall or wet grass, and into the forest where we may encounter mosquitoes, ticks and other wildlife. We expect to walk for most of the two hours with breaks. Please dress for the weather and your safety, and comfort.

Come explore the hidden secrets of Osamequin Farm and learn about the fungi that emerge there as delicious, deadly, or merely delightful mushrooms! Jonathan Kranz will teach us safe and responsible foraging methods. Along the way, you will discover the most delectable edibles, the deadliest toxics, and some of the most beautiful mushrooms in southern New England. You’ll learn the basics of mushroom identification, the strange lifestyles of fungi, and the tips, tricks, and secrets to happy and safe mushroom hunting.
About Your Instructor:
Jonathan Kranz is a Massachusetts Audubon Certified Field Naturalist who leads mushroom walks and talks for libraries, land trusts, clubs, and other groups in southern New England. He currently serves as vice president of the oldest mushroom club in North America, the Boston Mycological Club, and is a board member of the Pioneer Valley Mycological Association.
